Dear members

The Singapore Chamber of Commerce (Hong Kong) together with United Overseas Bank (UOB) and The Malaysian Chamber of Commerce (Hong Kong and Macau) are organising a webinar on Thursday, 17 March 2022 from 4pm to 5.30pm. The speaker is Mr Heng Koon How, Head of Markets Strategy, Executive Director, Global Economics and Markets Research of UOB. He will be speaking on 2022 Global Macro and Markets Outlook.

Synopsis

By now global investors are most prepared for the US Federal Reserve to start its rate hiking cycle at the March FOMC. Given the on-going supply chain disruption and higher commodities prices, there are increasing worries that the US Federal Reserve will get more hawkish and front load the rate hikes. Just how serious is the global inflation issue? How many times will the US Federal Reserve hike this year? What's the expectation for the eventual terminal rate? Is the US economy strong enough for the anticipated rate hikes?

Closer to home in Asia, China's economy is slowdown down fast. It remains uncertain if China's economy will be able to stabilize above the 5% GDP growth level. How will China's growth slowdown affect ASEAN? Will the US rate hikes weigh down further on China's economy? Will the RCEP buffer the region against China's growth slowdown? What's the outlook for the Renminbi and key regional currencies like SGD and MYR in the wake of a stronger US Dollar?
