Common prosperity has become the key driving principle of economic management, with milestones for the policy in 2035 and 2050. What are the three new trends emerged from this thesis? How would it affect the long-term development of China? What does it mean for businesses in China and elsewhere?


Our highly knowledgeable speakers will share what common prosperity is, what it means on a macro level, and how common prosperity can be achieved by empowering small businesses and entrepreneurs.


The Singapore Chamber of Commerce (Hong Kong) and BLW (Business Leaders Who Care) are organising a dinner talk on Thursday, 18 November 2021 at Conrad Hotel, Granville Room, from 6:30 pm - 9:30 pm.

    Executive Director and Chief China Economist of DBS Bank (Hong Kong) Ltd

    Mr Chris Leung is DBS Bank’s Executive Director and Chief China Economist, who joined in January 2002.

    Mr Leung is responsible for monitoring the macroeconomic conditions of the Greater China region. He frequently conducts economic/investment seminars across Asia.

    Prior to joining DBS Bank, Mr Leung was an economist at Citibank and Chase Bank. As an expert on the Chinese economy, he appears regularly on Bloomberg, Cable TV, ATV, TVB, CNBC, CNN and various print media, providing his professional views on financial and economic issues. His insights have been published in the Financial Times (Chinese version) and a book published by China Economic Publishing House. Mr Leung is frequently invited to attend various economic meetings convened by the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.

    Mr Leung graduated from the University of Washington with a Bachelor degree in Business Administration. He also holds a Master Degree in Statistics from Columbia University, a Master Degree in Economics from New York University, and an Advanced Diploma in Managing Economic Crisis and Reform from the Harvard Institute for International Development.

    Charles is Founder and Chairman of Micro Connect. He was most recently Chief Executive of Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Limited (“HKEX”) from January 2010 to December 2020. During this time, he orchestrated some of the most significant strategic initiatives in HKEX's history, including the acquisition of the London Metal Exchange in 2012, the launch of the Shanghai-Hong Kong Stock Connect cross-border trading scheme in 2014, Shenzhen-Hong Kong Stock Connect in 2016, Bond Connect in 2017, and the Listing Reforms in 2018. Prior to joining HKEX in 2009, Charles served as Chairman of JP Morgan China from 2003 to 2009 and worked at Merrill Lynch from 1994 to 2003, where he served as President of Merrill Lynch China from 1999 to 2003. Earlier in his career, Charles practiced law at Brown & Wood and Davis Polk & Wardwell in New York.

    Charles also serves on the Board of MarketAxess Holdings Inc. and the Board of Trustees of Asia Business Council.

    Charles received a BA in English Literature from Xiamen University, an MA in Journalism from the University of Alabama and a JD from Columbia Law School.
