Title: Businesses that create a social impact



Synopsis: At this event, you can learn how businesses integrate social impact into their business models for sustainability. We are delighted to have a speaker who will share with us how creatively designed toys can improve child development and increase family bonding. We are also excited to have a business leader who will share with us his vision on turning waste to cash and contribute to environmental sustainability. Last but not least we are thrilled to have the founder of an award-winning social enterprise share with us in person how he navigates through these challenging times with his core mission for social impact and contribution intact.

    Dr Ann KWONG

    Director, Think and Act Strategic

    Ann is the Director of Think & Act Strategic and has been in the toy industry since 1998 with their main focus on the wooden toy sector doing OEM & ODM manufacturing since 2002.

    Her vision is to promote child development and family harmony through their well-designed and high quality wooden toys. She and her team developed the first quality control system which was also a unique one in the industry. This not only strengthens the product reliability but also help establishes trust and confidence from their customers.

    Ann is the Chairperson of the HK3C Association and graduated with an MBA degree. She also received an honorary Doctorate.

    Mr Basil Hwang

    Managing Partner, Hauzen LLP

    Mr Basil Hwang is the Managing Partner of Hauzen LLP (in Association with Anjie Law Firm)

    He is also the Managing Director of Hauzen Services Limited, a corporate services provider, an Executive Director of Kubes Liberal Limited, a property developer, and a Vice-Chairperson of The Singapore Chamber of Commerce (Hong Kong).

    Basil was formerly a partner of Zhong Lun Law Firm and the founding and managing partner of Dechert LLP in Hong Kong.

    He has also held board or supervisory positions in a number of public companies, including the following:

    - Joint Company Secretary and General Counsel of China Shandong Hi-Speed Financial Group Limited, a company listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange (stock code:412)

    - Executive Director, Company Secretary, General Counsel and Head of Development and Investments, Daohe Global Group Limited, a company listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange (stock code:915)

    - Independent Non-Executive Director of First Sponsor Group Limited, a company listed on the Singapore Stock Exchange (stock code: ADN)

    Basil has over 20 years’ experience in law, corporate governance, entrepreneurship and fund-raising, and is extensively connected with the business community in Hong Kong, Singapore and Mainland China.

  • Mr KOH Seng Choon (Executive Director, Dignity Kitchen)

    Mr KOH Seng Choon

    Executive Director, Dignity Kitchen

    Seng Choon is currently the Executive Director of Dignity KitchenTM, which was founded in Oct 2010 and is Singapore's first hawker training school for the disabled and disadvantaged people.

    He graduated from Sheffield University, HK with a dual honours degree in Engineering and Business Administration with first class honours. He also holds an MSc in Computer Integrated Manufacturing from Cranfield Institute of Technology, UK. He worked as an ISO 9000 assessor in UK before returning to Singapore as a senior manager with the then Coopers & Lybrand International.

    He set up his own management consultancy firm in 1997 focusing on small and medium enterprises, in the areas of strategic planning and business development of mainland Chinese and Indian companies. He is a consultant to several state-owned Chinese companies in South China and several major Indian family managed businesses. His experience of India and Middle East is invaluable and was appointed as one of IE Singapore’s export coaches to assist local companies to develop their business overseas.

    In 2005, he was appointed as Executive Director of Restaurant Association of Singapore responsible for restructuring of the food and beverage industry in Singapore and assisted with the setting up a Chinese culinary training school.

    He lectures on the subject of entrepreneurship to MBA students at S P Jain Centre of Management and also assist ex inmates of Selarang Drug Rehabilitation Centre and the pre-release prisoners Changi Prison Housing Unit A5 and B4 to realise their entrepreneurial ambition.

    He is author of three books, one of which was on the best seller list in Delhi, India.”
