Synopsis: Mpox as a public health concern and contributions of medical advances to longevity
*****
Description:
Mpox (formerly known as Monkeypox) was usually endemic in Central and West Africa, but since 2022, it has become a multi-country outbreak. In August 2024, the World Health Organization declared for the second time mpox outbreak a public health emergency of international concern due to the upsurge of cases in the Democratic Republic of Congo and Africa.
Another global public health challenge is rapidly ageing populations. In the recent decades, different medical and technological innovations have been employed to foster healthy living and healthy ageing as a way to reduce burdens on healthcare systems.
Dr Kenneth Tsang, Honorary Clinical Associate Professor of HKU School of Public Health, and Regional CEO of IHH Healthcare North Asia, will share updates on the development of mpox across the globe and in Hong Kong.
